Hirslanden Group Medical Department

Hirslanden, located in Zürich, has, in 2001, established a central medical department for its growing network, which currently comprises 14 acute care hospitals in the German and French speaking parts of Switzerland and about 1'400 collaborating physicians of all specialities. This setting allows for an integration of all possible levels of care. It provides a unique opportunity to develop and evaluate new procedures and to assess their effectiveness in clinical practice.

Hirslanden, through its medical department, aims at the promotion and conduct of practice-oriented research in the field of clinical medicine and health sciences. It focuses on:

clinical trials evaluating new drugs phase I-III
clinical trials and observational studies evaluating new medical technologies (devices, medical and surgical procedures)
evaluation and development of new approaches in the field of health services provision and utilisation
studies and activities addressing the assessment and improvement of quality of care

Current HTA activities address several emerging imaging and minimally invasive surgical technologies.
